Do household chores.
Do not switch on TV, do not read a book, do not switch on radio. In other words, do not engage your mind.
Consider learning mindfulness meditation for times like this.
Do not iron as you may fall asleep ironing and leave the iron on.
Most counsellors will tell you to avoid alcohol but, personally, I find that a glass of something at times like this helps.
Finally, and I do not jest, but pleasuring yourself sexually can do wonders for releasing endorphins and relaxing you. A stressed out Dr. Cox advised it on an episode of Scrubs once - and it was a spot on suggestion.
I'm watching Oceans 12 on TV. On the nights I can't sleep, I come downstairs and surf the web looking at uninteresting sites ie no blogs, no social sites, no travel sites. Try it. Failing that, some of Bob's ideas sound fun.
Still awake here in Tyneside, yet to get to sleep.
Great suggestions Bob but most of them I am too breathless to do, as for ""pleasuring myself"" right now thats the last thing on my mind, my concentration and priority lies with breathing!
I could do the ironing though, my iron has auto switch off.
