Hi

It is OK to take prednisolone and antibiotics at the same time.

They have two different actions

Prednisolone is a steroid and supresses inflamation in the airways etc

Antibiotics kill bacterial infections.

With an infection there will be the bacteria which needs antibiotics and the infection can cause inflamation of the airways ( eg asthma)

My daughter is very often given them both together for flare ups too. The last time he wasnt sure if she had an infection or not as her chest was so bad he said he couldnt hear either way! he gave Amoxycillin anway as well as the Pred.

Hope you feel better soon.x

Hi confused,

like many people on this site i've had both together, but last time ended up with thrush-which wasn't very pleasant. You could try taking actimel drinks or activia yogs to protect your stomach a bit and protect against the heebie jeebies while taking the meds. I do this and havent had too much probs so far legs crossed lol :}

Take care

always have had pred and anti-B's together, and I have the exact same combination on the shelf now should I decided I need it. They like others have said seem to work in combination, I once tried just the pred but it never worked and had to cave in and take the antibiotics, within a few days I was seeing the improvements. hope you get better soon.

What I would say is a lot of people seem to be catching pneumonia right now, so be careful one friend (non asthmatic) has had it now for 6 weeks.

Me and son nearly always have antibiotics and preds together. Even when GP thinks son's chest is clear from infection he still gives him antibiotics, because it invariably does become infected when he has a cold. And the infection can take hold very quickly - one day chest is clear and the next day it's infected.

Hope you feel better soon.

Help!!

hi

woody that crossed my mind, i literally deteriorated within 4 hours and by the time i got to the a&e I was blue and gasping for air, Im utterly shocked. Luckly my gp has stocked me up with preds so I came home (it was too late to pick up the prescription so the preds started).

Im utterly fed up as i saw my doctor on friday (23rd) explaining that im getting throat spasms and that im having to use ventolin every day (200mcg about 4 times I think im self nebulising now) - instead she reccommended me to have my technique checked. - I have this booked in on Monday - I was having continuous little things kick in over the weekend. I thought it was cold on Monday (how dumb was that?!?!) and it was severe by tuesday lunchtime.

Im so fed up and depressed now - 5 flare ups in a year, 7 rounds of antibiotics, 5 rounds of preds. 3 puffs of a flixotide 250 and 1 puff of a seretide inhaler and flixonase Nasuls too AND im still back at square one!

what should i do? Go in to the Doctor and just say i want 1x spiriva and 1x theophyllin?? How much more suffering! I've researched so much im now like a mini asthma nurse!
