You can be allergic to any medication but normally an allergy would come on very quickly after taking the medication (normally within minutes) and if it's your asthma it's effecting it can be very severe.

If you do think your allergic to any of your medication ring your GP asap who will decide whether to keep you on it and can arrange for allergy testing.

hi annie,

i'm trying to create a list of things to be tested for and it suddenly dawned on me that i might be allergic to preds as i take them at every flare up.

Also its almost every month to the day i get another flare up! This could just be coincidence but why this pattern? it's like you had said it would be instant if it was. i've had preds six times this year. its annoying because i've still looking for this pattern and paranoia to end.

I'm sure you've thought of this but....if it's every month could your hormones be playing a part?

Hi feejay,

that thought has cropped my mind but i've only had these massive reactions from december which is when i've had that swine flu jab which lead to a flare up and then i had preds to calm it down!

i've been put on aminophylline recently because with every flare up the asthma is deteriorating more and more. im trying to stay positive that this is now the right set but i keep feeling as though im in close proximity to the triggering allergen!

I would definitley mention the monthly flair-up's as apparently hormones can play a big part in asthma. Also it can be very simple to treat, worth exploring for sure.

are you taking red steroid pills? you may be allergic to these (the colour used in these), you need to try white ones. chat to your consultant about this, good luck

right medication?

begining to wonder if i might be having negative reaction to pred, started them and antibiotics feeling the start of flare up and chest infection, but really didnt feel too bad, just trying to avoid it getting hold, next day still felt ok and even went to shops, then gradually downhill,I'm on seretide 500 2 times day ,ventolin, and ventolin nebs which i have been using 4 x aday since hte flare up started, finished pred yesterday ,not able to do much without getting short of breath, feel weak and exhausted, and breathing ok when i'm not moving around.asthma nurse off sick and gp also,i have more pred in case but if it isnt working could it be making things worse?i know it makes me feel very emotional and cranky, not sleep etc,is it that that affects the asthma?wasnt well controlled before this and am absolutely dreading the thought of another long drawn out episode,i've been told that possibly might try xoilair but havent been offered anything else, had reaction to singulair and symbicort,i'm in rep of irland so treatmnt may be different, but any advice about whwere to go next greatly appreciated, thanks .also had this last year just didnt get better on the pred and nebs for ages, ill from nov-march,had loads of tests and bronchoscopy, last saw con in june when well, and he was pleased with things -and i felt like it was something that was temporary and would get better, but in july had flare up that lasted 3 weeeks on pred and nebs, any advice really appreciated, thankyou and sorry for long moan,x
