I am just in process of renewing travel insurance but have met a brick wall - due to the number of asthma meds I take - they use a crude judgement related to how many you take to create the policy amounts and extras etc - unless I choose not to be covered for asthma - which is fine until I leave Europe if/at any time...
Anyhow - Lansoprazole isn't for asthma but for the acid which they think in me like many others causes more probs...does this ocunt as a med I need to declare as an asthma med?
What about antihistamines - again don't treat the asthma but do stop the allergies that does provoke the asthma?
The insurance question asked btw is: . How many medicines do you take for your asthma (count each inhaler as one medicine)?
So I assume that the ventolin also has to be included although it's not - shouldn't be - a daily med?
Many thanks in advance - all advice gratefully received...
Dear me, what a rubbish insurance question. Rubbish because I am better controlled on all my meds than several asthmatics I come across who are on, say, one or two inhalers. Oh well...
I'll see if I can find some old threads on Travel Insurance to bump, as there have ben several discussions on this in the past,
Thanks CathBear...
My choice apears to be pay half as much again as last year or worse still go for specialised cover and double that!!!
Try the Post office - they ask how many inhalers eg 3 for me and then if I use tablets - yes ( doesn't ask the types etc) and also if using a neb - yes.
They are the questions from Fortis who underwrite the PO medical excess.

Hi
Try Freedom they are a specialist insurance company for people with existing medical conditions. |They were the only company who would insure me , it cost £70 for 2 weeks in Kos. I take 8 asthma meds, not including antihistermines and lansoprazole, fosamax etc........ and had only been out of ITU a week before I went.
