Since taking Beclometasone dipropionate 200 at the rate of 2 puffs twice a day, I've been waking up at 4 am. Unusual for me as pre inhaler I'd usually sleep right through to 8 am.
I'm taking my inhaler at 9 am and 9 pm. Any thoughts?

hi granny mo
When my chest is bad i wake up lots if i get to sleep at all however i always wake up at around 2am ish and 4ish then again at 7-8ish did you wake up feeling breathless or tight/wheezy at all?!
If you were symptomatic when you woke up try and get to see your doctor or asthma nurse as soon as you can as this could be a sign that your asthma isnt very well controlled at the moment!
If you were not symptomatic im not sure what could be causing the waking up sorry i usually take my preventor and long acting reliever first thing when i get up and just before bed and never really have any problems with it-i have always woken up several times in the night but im usually quite symptomatic so this is normal for me and my consultant and gp are aware of this. As you are newly diagnosed it can sometimes take a bit of time to get your meds correct for you and it maybe that things need to be added in or your preventor changed but that is something to discuss with your gp or consultant.
As i said earlier if you are waking feeling symptomatic go and see your gp or consultant/resp nurse as soon as you can as they could possibly add in a long acting reliever or change your preventor to help ease this symptom as it is a bit of a pain! Loosing sleep is very frustrating!
Take care and hope things settle down soon. Lv kk Xx
Thanks KK.
Will be making appointment with GP as chest feels a little tight in the night. Last review a month ago, the asthma nurse said as I still needed Ventolin 2 puffs about three times a week, she might consider giving me a bronchodilator precription, whatever that is. Its all a bit new still.

sounds like you may need the addition of serevent (LBA), this will help keep the airways in your lungs open for at least 12 hours. If after a month of trying that, and you are getting good results, EG better PF readings and/or less symptoms, then consider changing to seretide, this is a combination of the two meds (Steroid and LBA). Serevent is taken two puffs twice a day, and must be taken with a steroid as well, side effects are few, but muscle cramps are the ones I notice.
I sometimes wake at night usually around 4am, but this is not surprising as the bodys internal clock is at it's slowest this time of the night, and the respiratory rate is at it's lowest at any time in a single 24hr (+/-1 or 2) peoriod.

That's weird - I also seem to wake up at 4ish too!!
Like everyone else has said go and see your GP because waking up in the night is almost a definite sign that your asthma isn't very well controlled - although I guess it's probably different for everyone!
My reckoning is, I don't know about everyone else. But u generally wake up at night if your asthma is uncontrolled, and because I go to bed between 10-12pm,and take ventolin before I go to bed, and ventolin has a 4 hour life span as such, that that's why I wake up between 2 and 4am for ventolin. Dunno about everyone else!
