I am a girl. My age is 24. I am suffering with asthma from last four years. I am taking inhaler which consists of steroids. But with this inhaler my breathing issues are pretty fine. But I'm afraid of steroids side effects.
Is there any other good option for me ??
I should go with it or not??

I think there are less side effects from.inhaled steriod since medication goes straight to lungs. But tablet steriods a lot of sise effects if taken for a long time. I didnt want to take them but it was my only option since without them i couldnt breath. Got to balance out quality of life/health improvement versus side effects. Steriods can cause weight gain, increased appetite, fat face, can make u have more energy, make u unable to sleep, can cause thinning of the bones ostopenia and ostoprosis. But u can take calcium tablets to help ur bones. There r other side effects so read up on it. But a short course of steriods u should be ok its only if u take lots of them that problems can arise. Wishing u good health.
I've never experienced side effects with my inhaler. My understanding is that they are more a feature of tablet steroids. The inhaler takes the steroid directly to where it's needed in the lungs whereas tablets are less precise in their target, hence the possibility of side effects.
Keep using your steroid inhaler, as it is working to control your Asthma. There are very few side effects to inhaled steroids, and if you don't take it, you risk your Asthma getting out of control, and you don't want that, as it can lead to lung damage.
Asthma is usually treated with inhaled steroids (also known as a preventer as it prevents your symptoms from getting worse). Also, a reliever inhaler (ventolin/sambutamol) to help when you are wheezing, as it works more or less immediately. The ventolin inhaler is not to be used instead of the steroid inhaler. You may be given a short course of steroid tablets when your Asthma gets worse, but this is only until your symptoms return to normal.
The idea is that the steroid inhaler controls your symptoms so that you do not need to use the ventolin inhaler hardly at all.
I am not sure what you want to know.
Remember, a few side effects are better than permanent damage to your lungs. It is your choice.
Hi Joiya Latest news regarding clinical trials at Nottingham Trent University,s School of Science and Technology gives thumbs up to a Prebiotic nutritional mixture called Bimuno (B-GOS) i.e. reduces severity of bronchoconstriction & markers of airway inflammation. This is very promising for all Asthma Sufferers and confirms my own experience taking prebiotic & probiotic capsules for 2 years & now consider myself Asthma free, after over 40 years being chronic asthmatic. Have also experienced no chest infections for 2 years as has my 99 years old mother on a similar regime. Your digestive system holds approx 15 trillions of good & bad bacteria & the bad bacteria dictates to your brain that you should only eat junk food with sugar being the worst. Taking prebiotics will help to shift the balance to more friendly bacteria & ergo you should get better. I only wished someone had told me this 40 years ago. Good Luck everyone ! It pays to do a bit of Nutritional Research
Prebiotics & Probiotics are nutritional and can either be obtained from foods i.e. Sauerkraut; Yoghurt; or Keffir or can be purchased as powder or capsules and taken with or without food. Just google either and you will be amazed at the difference it can make to your life.Unfortunately unless you can find a very supportive health professional you will have to purchase them privately.
WheezyAnne see steroids have side effects like osteoporosis typo. So for the intake of calcium if I start drinking milk it increases phlegm and mucous production. Now if I start calcium tablets they would do same like in case of milk ??
Sorry, only just seen your post. You need to be on steroids, particularly oral steroids for a long time before they start to affect your bones. I have been on them for over 50 years and do not have Osteoporosis, but they are thinning, so doc has me on Calcium and vitamin D tablets.
I buy Prebiotic/Probiotic online, but not on them at the moment because I would be wasting my money while I am on Antibiotics. I found that the yogurt drinks do nothing for me.
I read something about Keffir, but can't remember what it said.
It is confusing with all these similar names. Prebiotic and Probiotics are not antibiotics. They are "Good Bacteria" which we normally have in our gutt, and are needed to maintain good digestion and fight bad bacteria in our gutt. They are also found in Live Yogurt, and you can get tablets, but you have to buy them yourself.
Antibiotics kill both the bad bacteria and the good bacteria, so we need to replenish the good bacteria, after we have had any courses of antibiotics.
