new to this site but im needing reassurance

Hello everyone, my son is 10 yrs old and has been diagnosed with asthma for 5yrs. In the last 6 months his asthma has gotten worse. He was on an accuhaler seretide 250 but it had to be lowered to a 100 seretide accuhaler due to side effects. He was also on an Intal inhaler but this has now been changed to atrovent as well.

My son only complains of chest pain and very rarely has a cough or wheeze but i was at the hospital yesterday with him and they now want to run further tests due to the fact that they now think his asthma symptoms could be masking an underlying problem. Im left feeling very worried and just wanting to know if this has happened to anyone else? please reply one very worried mother.

hi paulie

Welcome to asthma uk the message boards are a great way of sharing information and getting advice on all things asthma related-i hope you find it as helpful as i have since i joined!

Im sorry to hear your son is having a rough time it must be very worrying for you. Does your son have a respiratory consultant based at the hospital or is he managed soley by your family doctor?

It sounds like his asthma is quite poorly controlled and could probably do with a review of his meds-there are lots of different meds out there and he perhaps isnt on the right meds for him yet-its very trial and error and as he is growing it may just mean he needs a change in meds to stabilise things.

Im sorry i cant help further hopefully one of the medics on the boards will be able to give you further guidance and help.

Good luck and keep us posted on your sons progress. Lotsa lv kat Xx
