Sulfasalazine

I have recently been prescribed this drug in addition to my weekly dose of methotrexate. I have read the information booklet on this drug and it appears to have lots of side effects. Does anyone with RA also take this drug and find it beneficial and have not suffered side effects..

I take it. I used to be on methotrexate as well but couldn’t tolerate it. I’m now on a biological, sal and leflumide. But they’ll be taking the sal away soon.

I’d say when I started it I got lots of indigestion. Rennie helped for the few weeks it lasted. But I don’t feel I felt any benefit from taking it. But that’s me.

I spoke to nras when it was all going wrong for me in May. They explained that you have to fail on 2 dmards for 6 months before treatment can be escalated. That explanation helped me. But what I’ve learnt since is that it’s a juggling game and that different combination of drugs work for different people and it’s a slow process and anything is worth a try. Because any relief is better than none.

Hope you have success!
