This give general advice, have you tried all the options suggested?
nhs.uk/conditions/shoulder-...
It really depends how bad it is, if the other options don't work then an operation may be your only choice.
I had a shoulder replacement 4 years ago today.... and although it's not the easiest to recover from.... I've never regretted it..at least no more pain!
Hand thanks for the reply.Had this problem for years. When I saw the xray, it looks like a peice of bone ( only way to describe it).
I go to Hydro re my knees and I see so many with shoulder problems who are struggling from the Surgery.
Not sure if this is for me!
Thinking it's better the devil I know that the Devil I don't know
😄
Surgery certainly not for everyone - and I guess it depends on how difficult things are.
I've had 3 replacements because of OA - but I do heal very quickly and have got over all of them very well - but not everybody does - so it's personal choice.
Good luck with whatever you decide...
That's very true. 3 replacements! That's amazing and so good to hear they have been successful.
To be honest, I'm doing exercises which help but I just want to play darts again and that's not possible.
Do you find you have got 'back to normal' from having surgery ?
I was told that too but it would be keyhole so not open surgery. As it happens after a while injecting Benipali the pain in both shoulders disappeared over time.
Hi,Did you have surgery or did injections work for you?
I had injections years ago but that was for a frozen shoulder - the same one.
Not sure if anything else out there now.
I have other health issues so trying as much self help as I can. That includes finding info from people in the same position as myself.
So good to know I'm not on my own. 😊
my husband is just now recovering from an op for this. He also had one about fifteen years ago on the other shoulder.
Is recovering well,,still in pain obviously but can look forward to a time when the pain that he had been experiencing will die down.
Surgery is really a final option after everything else has been tried.
I had shoulder surgery 3 months after I had been diagnosed with PMR. The pain was different to the PMR. They sorted out the impingement and discovered and repaired a torn biceps tendon. It was very successful. You will need help for a while after surgery.
Hi there,I had impingement of my shoulder and had surgery years ago and I've been fine since. My X-rays showed bone growth. Prior to surgery I had steroid injections which only gave temporary relief and physio which didn't help either. Surgery certainly helped me! Speak to your Consultant and seek his advice. Good Luck on your final decision! 😊
Hi AuntyJean15,
I am in my late 50’s and I have osteoarthritis and scoliosis of my cervical and thoracic spine. I don’t know where you live, but I recently had an MRI which revealed several impinged nerves in the facet joints. I have had great pain as a result of the obvious degeneration, but I feel like I am chasing my tail to get treatment. It upsets me greatly because of my pain, and I would be grateful to have surgery.
I am almost knocking on the door of the doctors surgery daily even to be seen by the pain clinic. Years ago I was under a Professor at a leading hospital in Manchester, yet here in the South West of England the service is dismal. I wish you every success with your surgery and a speedy recovery. Best wishes to you ♥️
I'm very grateful for your message but feel sad that you are struggling so much.I hope that there is light for you at the end of the tunnel very soon. 🤗
I would say that impingement is a big word that simply means something like a joint pressing on the localised nerve. I would ask for clarity if you are unsure because it’s a scary thing when you aren’t sure exactly what it means for you personally. Have a list of questions such as how the surgery could benefit you and for how long. On a positive note, I’m happy for you that you are being seen to, and treatment is being offered. Best wishes x
