Does anyone else have depression/low mood at times?

My knee ( OA bone on bone ) is giving me no rest with pain at the moment and am waking up through the night. It’s now beginning to cause pain on the right knee as well as am putting more pressure on it.

My Rheum Arthritis seems stable just now as am on Amgevita though have begun to develop skin rashes so doubtless that’s not going to go away

Aside from that; following cardiac issues last year - things are stable but the bisoprolol leaves me fatigued both physically and mentally.

So no wonder am getting fed up. I’ve begun to take more alcohol than is good for me to help but that’s no good nor are the chocolates am having each day.

There seems no way out for me - just saw some photos of me on a beach 6 years ago and honestly I’ve gained 4 stone and it’s terrible.

So just asked my GP for help but I suspect that will be another tablet.

Maybe today is just a bad bad day - but does anyone else have bad times?

Paul

well TheBoys I think you know the answer to some of this …… I’m talking more about the cardiac issues now. If you are four stone (25 kg) more than six years ago then your weight needs addressing.

As you are talking in stones I assume you’re in the UK. A good source of advice is the NHS website. Start by finding your BMI then read their recommendations; also the section on alcohol consumption.

as your weight decreases so will the pressure on your knees.

Another good source of advice for your pain is one or more of the arthritis charity websites. Maybe start with Versus Arthritis.

When you feel that you have more control of the issues your low mood might lift.

Depression is common when your unable to function without constant pain but eating or stressing won’t help …. I wish I listened to my advice to you years ago ….

Have you tried wearing knee braces?

Try Australian Dream Cream on knees expensive but I find it takes the edge off my Psoriatic Arthritis pains which can be insane.

Purchase on Amazon a sit down bike peddle so you can keep somewhat moving.

Are you going to have your knee replaced?

Hi Paul , I believe we have spoken before. Sorry to hear its getting you down and I am sure you know there are many things that can help[. One day at a time , you obviously realise the weight is not good unfortunately I have a sweet tooth but if we eat smaller bits or better still dark chocolate it helps. Or eat less of something else like bread and potatoes will allow for a choccy treat now and then. I have lost 4Kgs just by changing what I eat so their is always hope. I still have arthritic pain and now possibly problems with long term use of pills for pain. But never give up hope. There are lots of varied pain treatments if you go on line to the Arthritis Action Website I believe there is a pain video about management of your pain. But be prepared for bad days like today we all get them. Have you tried any of the new braces for the knee? even an old fashioned elastic bandage can give some relieve. I am a phone volunteer for Arthritis Action. As well as multi joint arthritis and other health issues I have never found a total relief for pain but go for reduction first and support of your joints like weight loss even small amounts help lower the pain and immobility.

Pain is making my depression worse. I feel for you. Wish I had some easy answers but don't. Exercise helps but can be hard to motivate yourself if you are depressed anyway. Vicious cycle. Just don't give up.

I would seek talking therapy, you are facing a great deal unsupported and you need a good, skilled person to help you out of this painful rut.
