My right hip disintegrated

Chocolate41 profile image

Hi I am a new member and I have to have a right hip replacement in April

I had an X-ray last week and the actual hip had disintegrated.

The pain is terrible at times .I am very frightened but have to have it done as my life is on hold at the moment.

Any help and info would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Have a look at this link - it is on another forum, but you should be able to read it, if not just join the forum temporarily to do so.. you can then leave again afterwards.

I have had three replacement surgeries, and the hip was the easiest to recover from, if that's any consolation...and according to surgeon mine was "knackered" as well!

So stop worrying- and look forward to a better life afterwards.

Hip replacement is one of the most successful operations in the world. I have had both hips replaced. I still cannot believe they are not my own hips, except they don’t hurt!

I found that awful pain had gone after the op. I was able to be pretty active after six weeks and started swimming after three months.

About 3wks post op but now use a stick when I go out.Not confident enough to use nothing.I have periods of light headiness so still need to be careful.

The moment I got in the front door!! I was rubbish with crutches. I cannot get the rhythm. I did use a stick though. In the house I just furniture surfed.

I'm at week 11. I'm scared this short leg is for life

It's a lot. I hobble without a crutch It still hurts in the bottom of buttock. I've started the exercises regardless I, seeing surgeon next week I'm writing him a list of questions to read. I need a prognosis I need direction and explanation instead of these mixed messages between himself his registrar and physics

I think it is important to keep up the exercises to help flexibility.

Hello Chocolate41 I know exactly how you are feeling but I promise you it will be ok

The pain beforehand is unbearable isn't it and life does go on hold

I have had both my hips replaced I remember coming round after the first op and just sobbing my heart out knowing that that awful pain had gone

I recovered quickly both times and the new lease of life it has given me is incredible

Its never nice to have an op but please don't be too frightened

April is a lovely month to recover too in the spring

Wishing you all the very best and if at anytime you want to chat for a bit of reassurance or ask any questions then please message I know what it's like x

Thank you so much Cat 33 I am feeling more positive after your reply.I can’t wait to have it done and be out of pain.Mental health not good at the moment either missing a lot of family get to get to gethers as well.

What did you take for pain relief before the operation.?

I have been offered morphine but don’t really want that at the moment.Taking paracetamol regulary. Can’t take anti inflamatories due to gastritis.

I have morphine-derivative patches and find them very helpful for pain.

Chocolate41 in reply to Cat33

Hi Cat33 I have now had my hip replacement and am now 4 wks post op

I think I am doing ok but still can’t walk far without my hip becoming really sore.Is this normal or am I trying to run before I can walk.

I take the occasional paracetamol that’s all.

I just would like some input to see how quickly others have progressed.

Regards to all

Hello Oh please don't worry that's perfectly normal

I think by 6 weeks you will see a big improvement

Think what a big major op you have had its going to be sore

I promise you you will feel better soon and to only take a paracetamol now and then is amazing

Take it gently

All the very very best to you x

Hello Oh I'm so glad that you feel more positive that's lovely

The pain well I have never had pain like it and to be free of it was amazing

I know I do feel for you as life definitely goes on hold and you do miss out

They offered me morphine patches but they made me feel so ill so I had Naproxen but quite honestly nothing really touched the pain before the op

After the op I had liquid morphine and was fine

You will be surprised at how quickly you will recover

I suffer with anxiety so if I can go through it twice anyone can !

I'm going to have a second knee replacement no date yet

Message me anytime if you want a chat x
