Hoping someone can help please. I have arthritis I’m many of my joints…. Undifferentiated arthritis.
I have had a painful left groin for the last 6 months, I was sent for an X-ray enrich come back clear but because I’m in so much pain, I can’t turn, twist, walk far at all and am walking with a limp I was sent for a mri…. The results come back today and i have been told it’s also come back clear. I am so confused. How can o have this pain but nothing is showing on the imaging? Has anyone had any experiences of this please?

It sounds like sciatica. If you research it, you will find that it often stems from a herniated disc in the spine which cause pain going through the buttuck and down the leg. It stops you bending twisting etc and you tend to walk with a limp.
Pain in the groin is common with sacroiliac joint problems and that only shows on a special X-ray. It often goes with trochanteric pain syndrome, which includes bursitis (soreness on the side of your hip) and sacroileitis (Pain along the ridge at the back of your pelvis). Mine was diagnosed by a spine dr and treated successfully by a pain dr. The groin pain was awful, I sympathise. Hope you can get it sorted soon.
Hello, What is the name of this special X-ray you mentioned? Also what treatment was offered by the pain doctor? I am most interested because I suffer so badly with groin pain, unable to walk, bend down, twist my body, sleep, etc. I would appreciate your information. Best wishes.
I am sorry I don’t know the name of the sacroiliac joint MRI. Maybe that is what it’s called. I was fortunate that my pain clinic dr was very familiar with it. First he gave me steroid injections into the joint and the bursa. That helped for about six months but eventually he went all out and at the same time he gave me steroid injections into the bursa and the facet joints in my lumbar spine, and performed an RFA (Radio Frequency Ablation) on the sacroiliac iliac nerves. This destroys the nerves. All under X-ray guidance. It has been very successful, lasting about two years. It’s starting to bother me again so I guess I will be asking for a referral again. I have degenerative disc disease in the whole of the spine. I also had successful lumbar back surgery. Best wishes, I know how awful it is not to be able to walk and to be in pain all the time. I do find ice packs and heat to be helpful.
Thank you for this information. May I ask where you live? I would like to be able to see this most able and helpful spine consultant. Not so lucky with a competent spinal surgeon where I live. Indeed constant pain is so debilitating and depressing. Pleased you had some help and respite. Sorry the problem is coming back… Hope you can be helped again. Have you been diagnosed with osteoporosis? Feel free to contact me by PM if you wish. All the best.
Hi. I live in Northamptonshire but by using patient choice I went to a private dr and pain clinic at Coventry hospital. Unfortunately the dr has moved to NHS Buckinghamshire and the pain clinic dr has left. I have had good success with patient choice. I mostly choose a private dr or hospital. Sorry I can’t be more help. I will have to start the process again. I always ask for a second opinion if I don’t feel good about the dr.
Hello Dazakella, your experience of test results is not unusual. All the suggestions on here are worth considering . I have arthritis and have done since I was in my thirties its only truly accepted because my joints show distortion. I can't remember how long I have had a limp but now have residule mobility difficulties from the limp. So please do not leave it persist in requiring a proper diagnosis. The groin pain could be any number of things as well as arthritis. There are many different types of arthritis, do seek some info from Arthritis Action. Groin pain can be hernias , bladder, sciatica, ladies or mens gentalia problems, circulation, back , and muscle problems. We are not the doctors are we and no one should be left to suffer in pain ongoing everyday when there may possibly be some treatment to help. With Physio you need a diagnosis too as therapists deal with different parts of the body and exercises are aimed at the faulty part really. But a private assessment can sometimes be useful. Hope this posat helps you reach a decision as to where to go from here, remembering of course appointments are not easy to get at present. Take care and every best wish for a good result and some pain releif given time.
Oh Dazakella2010, you have been through so much it just isn’t fair. If it were me I would try physical therapy it could be that your tendons are tight which can pull and cause pain every where or maybe try heat therapy.
Hello again Batty…. I’m still none the wiser except being given steroids and being given the diagnosis of undifferentiated arthritis. My anti ccp blood level was 10 which my gp said needs to be repeated in a couple of weeks.
What ever came from the possible Psoriatic Arthritis diagnosis ? I looked up undifferentiated arthritis earlier and this is actually a catch all diagnosis for arthritis in other words they have no idea why your having these pain issues.
He won’t listen to me and completely rules it out! He done a scan on my hands as that’s the most affected area and because he found no inflammation he ruled it out… but because my joints are so painful and swollen and my anti ccp level was 10 he has given the undifferentiated arthritis diagnosis.
Have you considered going to another rheumatologist and getting a second opinion about your pains? I definitely would and actually thats what I did 3 years ago and thats how I finally got my diagnosis and treatment and because of my delayed diagnosis and treatment my damage to joints can’t be undone.
I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and also osteoarthritis . Recently I had a scan for severe back and groin pain which showed spinal stenosis. 8 weeks ago, I began having severe pain in my groin, left hip, and down thigh. I now also, walk with a limp. sometimes the pain is so unbearable especially when I attempt to walk outside, or suddenly twist. I am currently awaiting an X-ray. To rule out other diagnosis, as my doctor feels it’s sciatica. A friend of mine have all the symptoms you listed, had numerous test, all negative. The consultant finally came to the conclusion that it may be her emotions.…she has had a few years of deep stress which he feels has manifest itself in this way.
Hello Uzor, your freind should be careful of them blaming things on stress although stress does not help our health, it just adds to the problem. I am glad to hear you are getting an Xray for what your doctor suspects is sciatica. Remember too, that arthritic type pains and many other illnesses have flare ups which is when you need to pamper yourself a bit, take care.
Thank you all for taking the time to reply…. My rheumatologist keeps putting everything down to fibro! I’m sorry but this is so painful it’s got to be something I’m too of the fibro…. I’m not saying fibro is not painful because it is not this can’t be blamed for everything. He said to me in my last appointment if the mri comes back normal then it’s just the fibro! I have another appointment with him in a couple of weeks…. What do I say to him? I’m running out of energy now…. I have had so much going on with my health I’m not sure I can fight anymore. ♥️
Sorry to hear you are reaching the end of your strength to fight. I understand sometimes it gets like that with constant pain and people saying xrays all clear. Do give yourself a break from thinking of the fight, my gp once said if you keep fighting we can't help. Relax if possible, and try to find the things that make you feel a little better so you have the strength to cope with tests ect. A lot of groups are on Zoom now if you have the internet so you can talk to people on line. Many people with Fibro get to your stage and a tip not all Xray results are correct I speak from experience. Many people now only get treated for one illness even if you have more than one problem. I truly hope you can get help even if only to releive your symptoms. Take care and look after yourself.
