why is my finger tip red, swollen & sore?

From my index finger nail and about half-inch above, the area for the last 3 weeks has been sore, red and inflamed. I’ve had a GP phone consult, where I sent a photo. GP says probably wear and tear due to arthritis but I’m not convinced it’s arthritic pain. He suggested using Voltatol which I have but it’s not helped. Any ideas please anyone?

You might have an infection, my first call would be to soak finger in hot salty water, dipping it in and out. Other than that can you see the nurse in your gp practice or ask the pharmacist. I hope it improves.

An old fashioned Witloe? Might be a good idea to see a pharmacist if you can’t see the GP.

Thank you, hadn’t thought of that. Saw pharmacist who said maybe infection under nail bed spreading upwards and to see GP for a/biotics. No appts at surgery so going down Urgent Treatment Centre tomorrow. Thanks again 😊👍

Keep doing the hot salty water soak every few hours. If it's an infection it can potentially get nasty quite quickly, so take care, and do let us know how you get on.

Thank you - I will do the hot salty water tonight and intend turning up at the UTC tomorrow as soon as it opens. Yes I will post on here what they diagnose and hopefully it may help someone else in the future 😊
