Finger joints

This week I’ve noticed that my finger joints have aches like a bear this week on both of my hands. Yesterday one of them was to damn sore to even touch it or bend it. Theses symptoms are the newest that I’m noticing. Few weeks ago it was the smaller toes in both of my feet, witch by the way still feel achy. But now noticing the soreness in my fingers makes it very painful in my hands. My general practitioner when I saw him in October didn’t suggest anything when I told him about my new aches and pains I’ve been experiencing. Since October I’ve noticed others as well. Should I ask to be tested for other forms of arthritis? I only know of one form of arthritis that I currently have. Witch is osteoarthritis. I use my hands every day so I can’t have them effecting me when I’m working. My finger joints are a little red but not swollen. Toe joint aren’t red at all but still ache like you wouldn’t believe.

Hello JDQuinn75. I havent got the answer to your question. But I also get aches and pains in hands and feet and stiffness in some finger joints which came on after my diagnosis mainly of knee joint problems.

Arthritis is a strange one. If you have one type its more likely to get affected by other types,

Warmth, massage, use of, physio, diet are things that help. I’m going to try cutting out certain things such as alcohol or n my diet. There are some good books on the Subject too. But I try not to get too immersed! Its a pain!!!

It would seem the diagnosis of osteoarthritis is correct, as a long term sufferer of OA I have it in my feet, hands , wrists, thumbs and more recently they have discovered it in my right knee which has been swollen now for two weeks with a flare up. I use heated pads, creams and gloves on hands. Splints for thumbs, liners in my shoes but to name a few helping gadgets as well as painkillers. Try some suggested things might help , latest herbal remedy is CBD oil and capsules.Good luck do speak to your doctor too.

I find the weather seems to affect how badly the joints in my hands and feet ache and I have had several days of quite intense pain as you say too painful to touch. I have Heberden nodes on alot of my fingers and have noticed that on the left index finger which at the moment is the most painful they are developing there. They seem to go through a really painful stage and then when the boney swelling has developed they just settle down to stiffness. I actually find the less I use my hands the stiffer and more painful they get so I keep on flexing them. Keeping the hands warm seems to be crucial to keeping the pain down. As long as you aren't already on an anti inflamatory something like an Ibuprophen gel gently massaged into the hands can help, even a heat rub. I find gently massaging the fingers helps even though initially it seems to give more pain eventually it eases it.x

I have both Rheumatoid and Osteo Arthritis. My Rheumatoid affects my hands, wrists elbows and knees mainly. My Osteo affects my hips usually. As Emmeline 3 says, each form of arthur can affect the other. It certainly wouldn't do any harm to be tested for RA too, but be warned - the tests don't always show RA as you can test negative but still have it, and test positive and NOT have it. If you do have it the treatment is very different to that for Osteo.

This may help

I am currently reading 'Healing Arthritis' by Dr Susan Blum. She convincingly argues that it is all down to an imbalance of the bacteria in our guts, and makes very effective suggestions for treating it.

In the short term avoiding sugar and processed food, and taking probiotics will help, but one would need to follow her suggestions much more closely than that to get total relief.

I've RA had a lot of pain with swollen knuckles and fingers and toes elbows but it's more under control I also think leaky gut so take pre and probiotic tablets and Kefir and fermented food and red wine mmmm cut out sugar and apart from a wee ache here and there I'm brand new
