Hi everyone, just a query. I'm on a morphine patch, also on my doctors advice, had to go back on gabapentin, also co codemol. I take one gabapentin and2 co codemol 3 times a day. I feel awful! Really dizzy and nauseous. It's only been 5 days so will it pass??? Anyone else had to go through this?

Considering it is the weekend I would ring 111 and ask for advice. Seems quite a large cocktail to me. No need to have to wait until the middle of the week.

Make sure you do, otherwise go to an Urgent Care Centre or Walk in - they will not mind.

I was okay with the Gabapentin but try as I might I could not tolerate the co-codamol and they made me feel just as you described I tried for a week and had to stop in the end perhaps you are intolerant of opioids. The Gabapentin is more for nerve pain and I never had any problems with it but taking co-codamol & having a morphine patch too seems to me to be too much I'd get some advice if I was you

I would suggest that it's the co-codamol that's causing you to feel so terrible; they gave me that once a few decades ago and that made me feel the same; worse than the pain it was supposed to clear. A lot of people can't take it.

Hi mollyand masisie I like you until recently had been on Paracetamol : Co- dydramadol and Morphine patch, I had been though the works trying to get my pain relief sorted out, then I had an appointment made for me to see a drugs Consultant, to see if he could offer a solution, firstly he said to me you are aware we cannot cure your pain, but we can make it more comfortable for you. firstly stop taking paracetamol as you should not be taking them in conjunction with your Co-dydramadol. Next get rid of your Butec patch right away, as an oproid they should not be given to anyone suffering long term pain, since then I have felt quiet a lot better, my head is much clearer, he ask me to report back after two months which is tomorrow I see him again. Hi hermes. I am on 15 micro gramme butec patches. Do you mind me asking why they told you to come off it? I too suffer from long term pain caused by arthritis amongst other conditions. I'm still in pain and would like to find a medication that suits my needs and does not cause me to feel sick everyday. Thank you

Hi Molly and Maisie.

I'm so sorry you are feeling so unwell, but yet. Not no way surprised.

I too once was on that patch along with codaphar it's same as the tablets you mentioned it's just different name over here. After 24hours I hardly could even stand or stop vomiting , I was shaking like I had a hold of a kango drill . It was awful. I felt so dizzy and nauseous an was not able to focus at all.

I went to the A an E department and the doctors went mad.

No one should be on high dosages of two types of codine and other painkillers. That was said by the A an E doctor and the medical team doctor.

So I strongly advise you to seek medical advice from somewhere like the people who replied about walk in services straight away.

Is the gabapenton and parctomal not helping? Would you be able to manage just on that ? The cocktail your on us going to cause damage to not only your liver but also rip your stomach lining apart on you.

I'm sorry if this post sounds negative or frightening, I don't mean for it to be. I'm just very educated for a lot of years as to medication from when I was a career to my Mam at very young age and I was in so many disable organisations and would have to assist members with their medication when we be away on restbite holidays.

I hope you get sorted soon. Keep strong and be well 🙏🤗

Hi mollyandmaisie I was on Paracetamol : Co-dydramol as well as a Butec patch for three months the patch was doing my head in, it was a cotton wool cloudy effect, I just could not think straight, at the time I was under a Senior physiotherapist, telling me there was no more pain management could do for me and suggested i see a person who specialize in the latest in medication knowledge, so she arrange an appointment with this specialize medication expert. On my first appointment straight away stop my Butec got rid of my Paracetmol right away as I was also on Co-dydramol! which contained Paracetmol which was a wrong combination, that was two month ago to which I have felt a lot better, we both agreed one cannot get rid of pain, but there are better ways to manage it. Gp.s should try different Opriods ween you down gradually at the same time give you the same amount of the new Opriod gradually to see how it works, if not that one another one, there are only four variants that can be tried, if I was you have a talk to your GP.

Good luck. Hermes.
