Hello all I’m a long standing patient of 20 plus years with rheumatoid arthritis. But a week ago was also diagnosed with oesteo arthritis to both hips.

My left hip has severe degeneration with a cyst.

Just wondering if others have this and what the out look is like. ( not looking for medical advice have a fantastic consultant for that x)

Hello, I'm glad you have a good consultant. I don't know if I can be of any help, I've had RA for 31 years and Osteoarthritis for five years (no cyst though) I also have Osteoporosis and Vasculitis. Are you able to walk, I use a rollator with a seat, which folds up to fit in the boot of a car. The pain seems to lessen on walking. Is there a possibility of you having a hip replacement? The following link fro Arthritis Care arthritiscare.org.uk/do-i-h... It might have some useful tips.

Hi thanks for your reply.

I’m 43 and still attempting to be an active nurse. I do use crutches when not working

My consultant has indicated a hip replacement is on the cards.

How do you manage both conditions

I too have an excellent consultant. I take Methotrexate and Leflunomide for RA, with a low dose of Pred for Vasculitis. Also use Fenbid gel as I can't take Ibuprofen. Pain relief for my hips and spinal fractures is Fentanyl patches and Morphine sulphate. I have great difficulties with mobility and my husband is my carer.

Thanks hun.

I am also on mtx I’ve just stopped leflunomide it wasn’t suiting me.

I’m thinking of what pain relief I should try next like you nsaids are not a choice for me and coroner isn’t touching it at the moment.
