Occupational Therapy

Hi, has anyone been referred to Occupational Therepy?

I've just got an appointment through for hand wear and tear/early arthritis.

What kind of things to they do? Do they do anything to different from the DSE people in work, or an occupational health referral through work?

Just wondered what people's experiences are.

Thanks

OT may also give you advice about protecting your joints and in some cases make resting splints for nighttime use . I hope your appointment goes well .

The first thing I had done was splints for hands, and list of exercises to do for life. Then I was given advice on easier ways to do things and some gadgets that help. I agreed to pay to have my taps changed to flip type handles and inner soles for my shoes. This is many years ago now , I now buy my own splints on line and have made many adaptations to meet the detterioration in my arthritis. I am due to go to Rheumy later in the month about my general joint pain. Good Luck

I was sent to PT last year. By the time I was done, my legs and hips were in better shape than they’d been in decades.

Never had anything through work, as all my jobs were physical.

When I finally couldn’t work anymore, it was a battle just to make sure I stayed flexible enough to be able to walk.

Thanks everyone. The appointment's in a couple of week. Hopefully they'll suggest something useful! 😀

Good luck! As already said, lever taps were total magic, as was a ?grabber ... as used in parks etc to pick up rubbish. They sent me a 'perch stool' which has been invaluable for sitting at kitchen worktop too, or for ironing tho' i do that as little as possible. bath seat i'm sending back as prefer shower now, much easier. xx
