I had my phone assessment yesterday- dunno what anyone else thinks; but isn’t it long and hard-work
I was on the phone to a lady from Independent Assessment Services for an hour and fifteen minutes and was absolutely frazzled afterwards
Some of the questions were so tough and tricky and it definitely wore me down eg “take me through what it’s like when you do shopping in a supermarket” how would you describe yourself whilst doing it, how long does it take - then, how does taking a shower work for you? Describe how you clean yourself? What does it feel like ? How long etc
Jeez - I was glad to get off the phone. It feels too tough and designed to trip you up.
If I was doing again; I’d get someone else in to advocate for me!
Good luck to anyone else with an assessment soon!

There are people around nowadays who are very good at fooling the system and apply for all sorts of things for which they are not entitled. I am always amazed how some criminals manage to set up hundreds of bank accounts when I have trouble setting up one. It is because of the fact that there are those who are not honest, that we are all forced to go through hoops when applying for things.
I think there are very few who do get round the system but they get the ‘publicity’ and because of those few, innocent people are treated like potential criminals!
we had this with our daughter. The assessor, a doctor, insisted that he was taking a snapshot of what she is like as of the day he was speaking to her. Which is not correct as the guidance does say they understand things change day by day and week by week. My husband helped with the phone assessment.
It was turned down.
We then had the help of Citizens Advice and reapplied. Turned down again. Had more help from citizens advice, to make further appeal. Got PIP backdated to when we first applied.
So don’t despair when it’s turned down, go to CA, take someone with you. CA are currently overwhelmed with people needing help so you may be in a queue.
Hi TheBoys, I can recall many assessments in the past for DLA and they say PIP is harder so is attendence allowance. In order to appreciate how a person feels they need to ask such questions, which they did not go so deep in the past. They used the criteria is it reasonbable to expect someone with this problem to be able to do certain tasks. Heres one for you when I do heavy jobs I get pain , breathing difficulties , cough and have to do things in stages, but as my friend says they are not there when you are doing these things. So well done to have got your assessment over , now for the wait for decision fingers crossed for you .
