Hi there. Was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis 15 months ago. After different medication and injections my Consultant is going to now start me on Methotrexate. Was wondering who else on here takes it and what your experiences are.
Many thanks in advance and a Happy and positive 2018 to you all. xx

If methotrexate has been proposed then you have an inflammatory arthritis not osteoarthritis? As far as I'm aware it's not used for osteoarthritis.....
So you have rheumatoid, psioratic arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis?
I take it for RA, plus a number of other drugs, and it has given me my life back. So for me it's my best friend!
Hello. I have been on Methotrexate just over a year. It does take time to get used to. I don't have so many mouth ulcers. I can a bit better. My pain levels are coming down slowly, but now and again my body will let you know there is still pain. There is some side affects if you can put up with them you will feel little more human.
Hi I've been taking Methotrexate for years now with no side effects. I take steroids too which all helps with just the odd flare up. I was really worried at first taking Methotrexate but its worked well for me. Trust your Dr's and try it but make sure they do monthly blood tests as it can affect your liver. Good luck
Hi and Happy New Year to you and all fellow sufferers, I hope this new year helps find new ways and medication that actually clears up all the peripheral side effects and conditions. Best wishes to you all.
Regarding Methotrexate, I have been taking it via a sub cut self-injector. I have now been on it for 14 years now plus I also inject Embrel, I do not have any side effects (as far as I know) I suffer with chronic Fatigue and pain, fibromyalgia plus the usual things so unless someone knows if the injections are likely to inflame these conditions I can say I have only had good things. My pain is reduced, I have less swelling on my joints and I find with the Embrel I seep a little less during the day. So my advice is take it, for me it only did good!!
I take mtx subcut injection for my Ra , been on it 5 years. I occasionally get mouth ulcers, but otherwise I'm fine on it. I use the tummy area as I find it's less likely to bruise than the thigh area. Unfortunately for me the mtx tablets made me very nauseous, and my hair became very thin. But since on the injection I have had none of those symptoms.
I understand you can get anti sickness tablets if you get the symptoms, or your Rheumy can increase the folic acid tablets you take. I currently take them four days a week.
Hi. I was put on Methotrexate, it worked wonders in way of gaining mobility back and reducing swelling. Was first on the pill once weekly then the self injections. But it made me violently sick, which lead to dehydration which almost landed me on a drip in hospital.. massively disappointed that my body couldn't handle it as it's benefits were worth persisting with it. Unfortunately it's side effects for me out weighted the pros.
I hope you have a much better experience with it than I did and that you find it gives some relief.
Don't be put off by my experience, I've got a weak constitution and the consultant said it rarely causes reactions like mine
