I'm on 35mcg patches which I change every 3 days. At first I was very sleepy and a bit not with it. It does take a few days to get in your system but for me is worth it. Keep trying. Do you change patches every 12 hours??

Hi thanks for reply. Mine are changed weekly. 2nd day now. No nausea. Slight diarhoea. I did take ibuprofen last night. So probably need a bit stronger. 5 mg.

I still take paracetamol and ibrufen aswell everday. i was started on 5mcg and went up slowly to a level which controlled my pain enough. You may also find that after a few days the patch stops being as effective. I got to day 3 and was in agony. Also you may become constipated. How are you today? X

Hi

Yes, i started on 5mcg which did not seem to make much difference. I'm now up to 10mcg and my doctor has said we can keep increasing them until my pain is manageable. Still having to take 30/500 co codamol occasionally but I think they are working.

Good luck

I started Butrans patches in 2012 until I developed an allergy to the adhesive but they were life changing and allowed me to function well daily with only an occasional need for a breakthrough pain medication. Now I take a sublingual equivalent but the patches really worked well for me. You just have to have something on hand for acute breakthrough pain.

Best ~

What mcg were you on? I'm on 35mcg and a different make patch as i also suffered with skin irritation quite bad. I have the sublingual for breakthrough pain but find them more sedating than the patches xx

I had the 20 on the patches but as I said if the breakthrough pain was present, it had to be dealt with first and then the patches kept me steady. The adhesive reaction got worse and worse to the point I could no longer take it but while it worked, it was nice.

I was the same with the adhesive to the point I was sore from scratching. Luckily the 35mcg patches are a different brand with senstive skin adhesive. I have no problems now x

Thanks for replies. I think i need a higher dose as my s i and hip still very painful at times. Had to take i uprofen which I shouldnt as i take anti coags. I am not sure what the equivalent co drydamol is to a 5 mg patch. So not sure how much more i can take. ???

There are detailed charts that can help you do the conversion but your physician is the best bet. I know that a 5 patch would do nothing for me but the 20 worked well. Best of luck!

I know your post is 2 months old but i have had such incredible success with Butrans patches that i had to add to you thread . I have had several operations and been in chronic pain for 30 years but it wasnt till starting this patch that i finally got total pain relief after using every narcotic or non narcotic med to help it . Also one thing thats quite common is increased energy from it which most pain sufferers dont have . Best of luck and i hope it worked for you
