Constant pain
I believe that "inflammatory arthritis" usually means rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks some of your own tissues. Might google it or check WebMD to be sure. It causes joint pain and swelling as well as fever and fatigue, and can affect internal organs as well. Therefore I would assume that in extreme cases it could be life threatening. There are a number of drugs that can help, as well as lifestyle changes such as moderate exercise, weight management and possibly dietary changes These are all good questions for your doctor or specialist.
Wikipedia says: "Inflammatory arthritis is a group of diseases which includes: rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthropathy, inflammatory bowel disease, adult-onset Still's disease, scleroderma, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)"
Hi Callierae, I don't think you need to worry too much about it being life threatening, I've had inflammatory arthritis since I was 23, I'm now 70. Life doesn't get easier, but you learn to live with the pain and find ways to ease things., and when it gets really bad go for heavy duty pain relief (Tramadol etc.,) I've been able to manage mainly on steroids until a few months ago but the Tramadol is now the only thing that gives any relief at all (it dulls it down to a quiet roar instead of a full blown gale). But again I say its something that you learn to live with. Hope this has given you a bit of a lift. There is nothing worse than looking down a dark tunnel, we all need to see a glimmer of light. Take care and think positive thoughts. Joyce X
