Hi, I to have bad hips don't put pillows all round, have your usual pillow in place

then place a very soft one diagonally from the top of the bed across the other one

going down the bed. Then position yourself so that U are lying on soft pillow and

the end of just reaches top of hip at the waist, this should raise U up slightly and

there is not so much pressure on the hip. Hope this helps you seems to help me

Also a warm wheat germ pack at your back helps as well. The position of downward

pillow needs to be just right for U and not to fat either. Ladyinred.

OK thankyou i will try that tonight x

Hi Nikki. Have a similar problem myself I have two approaches, first one, wheat bags warmed up and placed against the sore spots having gently massaged the areas with Arnica Gel first (or some other easing cream) second, the complete opposite, massage with Deep Freeze Gel (no wheat bags). The first seems to work well most times, but when it doesn't try the second. Hope this helps. Joyce x

This all sounds familiar,

I'm having a lot of problems recently; and trying to find a position to sleep is just one of them.

Nothing really works; other than sitting upright in bed, I can no-longer lie on my side ,(either side) even laying flat on my back doesn't help; and I'm forced to struggle out of bed a couple of times during the night, because of pain and discomfort.

Both my hips and knees are showing (via X-Ray) signs of degenerative Osteo Arthritis - my left ankle is permanently swollen.

I'm having days, when I cannot walk even a few yards; and even on the best of days, I really struggle with walking; or getting dressed; and getting in or out of the car is becoming very difficult.

My next appointment with Rheumatology Specialist is 23rd of October. I'm going to apply for a Blue Badge, and seriously considering applying for DLA (PIP) But my GP, surgery is not the most helpful of medical practices, I'm getting to where I really feel (for the first time in my life) that I need some help to be able to walk properly again or get to sleep comfortably; a pillow between my legs is sometimes helpful.

I really hate being this way; as I've always maintained a high level of fitness.

I hope there's light at the end of the tunnel for all of us? In the meantime, reading your posts on pain management has been really helpful.

Many thanks.

Love my blue badge. Admitting that I needed it was the hardest thing and that I deserved to use it. Partial knee replacement done 7 weeks ago rest of the joints playing nice at the mo so back down the gym now . maybe you are just having a flare up. They a last days, weeks months but then it stops, joints will hurt if you over do it but no where near as bad.Mine flare up when I am run down ,tired or exposed to the cold for lots of days. Take time to baby your self. Nap! elevate your legs but try to walk it helps keep the muscles and joints working. It can get better;)

Hi nikki. Your story is so similar to my own as I sit here at 5.30 on a Sunday morning having been up and down all night in pain. I too am on patches and also morphine top up tablets and as you can see doesn't help much. I'm at such a low ebb cos I know there's not a lot can be done for arthritis. Helpful forum this.
