Hi Maryraff, I really don't know about IVF & PP risks or if there's any research on it. If you don't mind me asking, did you have IVF with your first when you had your PP episode & are you having IVF now?

Hopefully I'll find some info for you & get back to you soon.

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for not replying sooner but I had a meeting with my psychiarist on Wed and wanted to get her opinion. We didn't have IVF the first time but we have been trying for a second with no success and are at the stage where we have to make a decision if we are going to try IVF. I am abit scared as the fertility consultant said there was a chance I could become unwell, but if that happended I would just phone someoe. I dont think she was aware of the nighmare PP I went through before. However my psychiarist has said she doesnt know but thinks its low. She is waiting on a response from pharmacy to adivse what the IVF drugs contain..

Hi Maryraff,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. I've asked around & as far as we know, there's no research that can provide figures for this but everyone I’ve spoken to believes there is no increased risk after IVF.

We don’t know of any women who’ve become unwell during IVF treatment but there's some suggestion I think, that the treatment can be associated with symptoms like depression & anxiety. We’re not sure that anything specific is known for bipolar disorder or people with history of PP but of course women will be at high risk after any pregnancy.

So it sounds like your psychiatrist is right in thinking the risk is low & it all sounds pretty positive to me!

I hope it all goes well for you & let us know how you get on.
