I would say see how you go on with the 40mg .......it will take a few weeks of that to see an improvement, it won't happen straight away. Citalopram needs to build up in the body to work and it's different for different people.

Best Wishes PL

Hi

I have felt Anxiety for about 2.5 years now and during this time I have been on meds and discovered that they alone are not the answer. To cure anxiety there is no magic pill. As soon as you realise this then it will motivate you to try other solutions. Have you tried CBT ? change of diet ? distraction techniques ? relaxation therapy ? Pills only help slightly, so do not depend on them for your total solution. Look through the posts on this site, we all give the same advice. The thing that worked most for me was distraction, taking up a new hobby that so engrossed my brain that I did not have time to worry about anxiety and those negative thoughts.

Good luck and if you want to chat further we are all here to help you with ideas

Thank you for this, I had a very difficult year but had a wonderful summer and then started back to work (college lecturer) and it has just destroyed my confidence with the pressures this term. I love my teaching and the students but can't take the constant pressure of being told we are not doing things properly when I feel I try my best with the time that I am given. I understand what you mean by distraction and I know that I have to let go of the pressure I am letting them have on me but not sure how to do this. I will figure it out and hopefully get back to normal again.

Ann-Marie I'm sure the extra dose of Citalopram will help but give it time. If you are giving your absolute best to your job that it all you can do.

The people who are your bosses can only put pressure on you if you let them get to you....it's easier said than done I know but in some ways you have to let that criticism wash over you, there are probably complicated reasons why they are doing it and it won't be to do with the quality of your work.

Try to find some information on dealing with pressure at work, and in life generally and ways of dealing with it......if you do a search on line you will find some books etc, there are some good ones out there. PL

I find that I get to a point where I think I'm cured and I feel so great ... and then I fall back down. I keep having my dosage increased aswell, I've been on 40mg citalopram for about a week now and touch wood I'm feeling a lot better (for now).. not sure what the docs can do if I fall back down again tho as the recommended dose is 40mg :( xx

K, I took Pennylayne's advice and found a book at the library on how to beat worry and anxiety. I have read the first chapter and it seems good advice so far but will read it all and see if perhaps changing a few things in my life at the moment will make a difference as well as the drugs. AM
