Ive been referred for cbt,has anyone here ... - Anxiety Support
Ive been referred for cbt,has anyone here found it helpful?
It did me a lot of good but its not an instant cure - I needed two stages of it. I'd say put your heart and soul into it and try to do the homework that they give you. Hope it helps you.
I think it is a big help, but as Karri mentioned, you have to work with it, don't give in and try to change certain patterns and follow new suggestions, such as changing negative thinking for a more positive approach, give it some time and hard work on your part and it will help. It is not a cure but an tool .
Thanks for replies,im determined to give my best that I can to this. The meds have helped a bit but ive heard positive feedback on the cbt.
I recently had fourteen NHS CBT sessions for social anxiety, but all I got out of it was to replace negative thoughts with alternative rational ones. This, I already knew, so it was all a bit of a waste of time really.
I'm currently attending an NHS social anxiety course which seems to be going the same way.
As a result, I've more or less resigned myself to accept that I'm just socially useless.
Hi partic, don't accept your socially useless. You've got to keep going and find a way. We all have the resourcefulness to succeed you just have to find a way. Don't accept giving up, keep moving forward and get yourself into that magnificent state in which you once had and you can have it again, can't you? Figure out what it really is what's allowing you to be like this and change it... you can do it.
I didn't find CBT helped me at all. My logical, rational mind knew what I was being told was right, but my emotional side couldn't put it into action.
I think that we've got to be at the right stage of recovery, before CBT will work. The problem is getting on the road to recovery!
