Ignorance about anxiety -aaarrgh

Why is there still such ignorance and stigma about anxiety

I have had situations where I have had to tell people I have GAD The reaction I get is mixed some people are lovely and understanding and others I can't believe their reaction I've been made to feel ashamed- weak- pathetic

If I said I had diabetes or whatever it would be totally different

I am so proud of how far I have come and what I've achieved and these people who are so ignorant can be so cruel

Rant over but would love to know if anyone else feels the same and tips on how to deal with it
