COVID 19 neighbor

I’m pretty sure that my elderly neighbor has the virus, I’ve known her for years and she has always had a smokers cough, the last 2 days her cough has gotten horrible and she can’t catch her breath. She’s old and stubborn and won’t take what’s going on serious. What should I do??

hi go to her door and check up on her to keep a distance even give hr your phone number but you could always phone up hospital for advice.

Smokers cough and having some breathing issues can be symptoms of things like COPD and not corona at all. It could be bronchitis or some other respiratory illness, but infections like this come with a lot of other symptoms.

If she is experiencing high fever, cough, difficulty breathing outside of her normal daily functioning, she should consider testing.

For now practice social distancing and follow the guidelines. I’d put your phone number in her mail box and a friendly note to let her know your a neighbor that will be there if she needs help.

The chances of her having it are low, especially if she doesn't go out much.

In these times its important to remember that everthing isn't always about the virus, people are still getting colds, regular flu, or other health issues, it's much more likely that it's one of those

We have to follow protocols. And not panic. All thr number look scary but still a very low % are testing positive, and even lower having serious issues.

Were I'm at they are only testing people with serious symptoms, and out of approximately 50k with symptoms tested, less than 3k were positive, with about 300 hospitalizations.

Most are just self isolated at home.

That's in a state with 11 million people.

Yes its serious, but it's being handled.
