My name is Melissa I'm 21 years old and I've been struggling with anxiety since high school. Recently (within the last year or so) my anxiety has been centered around my health. Any headache, chest pain or palpitation- in my mind- is something possibly catastrophic. I'm constantly checking my pulse or feeling the lymph nodes in my neck for signs of inflammation. Within the last two weeks my symptoms have intensified severely so I went in to see a new doctor that prescribed me 10mg Lexapro. I'm still hopeful this will help me but the side effects are troubling- racing thoughts, loss of sleep and slight nausea. Any recommendations on Lexapro usage?

Day 4 of treatment
Hi mel-waukee, Of course we all respond to medication differently and
your doctor is always the one who knows what is best for you.
I can tell you that for myself, Lexapro has been a turning point for me.
I've been on it for 5 years, have gotten off benzos since the Lexapro handles
anxiety as well. It does take 4-6 weeks to reach full efficacy at the beginning.
I more recently had my dosage upped by 5 mg. Even though I had been on
it for a number of years, there was a slight adjustment during 2 weeks time of
the increase.
Give it a chance but always let your doctor know how you are feeling and never
stop any medication on your own. I wish you well and hope you get the same
results I have. xx
Thank You! I'm still optimistic about this treatment, and I know it does take several weeks to notice real results, its just these beginning side effects feel so troubling at times- especially when I'm trying to sleep. It feels SO reassuring reading stories from people who've gone through this exact thing. Thanks for responding, it makes me feel better!
