It’s common to be more anxious at night as with any illness. When you are tired your defenses are down which makes it harder to control your thoughts. I had to start taking anxiety and sleep medicine so I could get a full nights sleep Getting to the root of the problem is also very helpful in gaining control.

As with any illness, first port of call should be your doctor. I experienced the same symptoms as you, and was particularly anxious in the mornings, but it tended to go off in the evenings. There was no direct cause for the anxiety (although there is a heridatry element as it runs in he family) so I was diagnosed with GAD -Generalised Anxiety Disorder. After 16 weeks on Sertraline, combined with therapy, the doctor decided Sertraline was not for me, as I was actually getting worse. So a change of medication, so fingers crossed. Apparently Mirtraline is good for anxiety causing lack of sleep as it is a sedative as well as anti anxiety and depression
