Heart palpitations
Hi I was overactive for a good 2-3 years undiagnosed- really bad heart palpitations as you describe. It's so scary and all you get told is that you are anxious and stressed! I am one of the most laid back people you will ever meet so I knew it was b****s! I was put on beatblockers for a while before finally seeing a doctor for about the 10th time and he said ok then we will do a blood test but I'm quite sure it'll be negative. (Very aragantly) within a day I was phoned to go to the doctors and told I had an overactive thyroid. Was put on carbimazole and had to see a specialist. Saw the specialist for a year on the carbimazole. Still getting the heart palpitations (also really bad rushing and pressure feeling in ears-itchy too sometimes) still scared of this. Also was told I have Graves' disease. Anyway heart palpitations were getting so bad one night I was convinced I was going to die my chest felt literally bruised. My heart would skip and feel like it stopped for about 3-5 seconds I went to a & e and put in an ecg. It showed nothing. The next day I was determined to get answers, booked a doctors appointment. Couldn't see my doctor saw a locum. So glad I did! He was lovely and explained to me these heart palpitations are called BENIGN EPTOPIC BEATS....he drew me a diagram and explained why and how they happen. He completely put my mind at ease. Which did help to calm the palpitations too. I still got them but now realised I wasn't going to die! It's such a scary thing and my specialist should have explained this to me surely?? If I hadn't have seen this locum I would never have known. Seriously google benign eptopic beats it explains everything. I went on lots of sites before I saw him and nothing is said about it. I don't know why as it is really important to know!
I have now had radio active iodine as the carbimazole didn't work. I get other symptoms but nothing as scary as the palpitations and much more liveable! Hope this helps anyone that needs to feel reassured as it can be so scary
