There have been various studies done on this plant, but variations in efficacy and side effects can be huge. It is generally agreed that it can function as an anti-depressant for some people. However, it is not recommended for those with bi-polar disorder, or for use in conjunction with other anti-depressant medications. Consult your doctor before starting to use St.John's Wort.

Sorry about your loss. It is a hard thing to deal with. A lot of your anxiety can be grief. There are bereavement groups that you can join. These groups have been known to help because everybody there is going through your situation. Do not take anything without checking with your doctor. If you want to take herbal supplements, you have to make sure it comes from a good manufacturer. Ads will tell you they do but studies have shown that some manufacturers put in other things or lie about the dosage of the herbs because they are not regulated.
