Used it many years ago when work was totally intolerable. Not sure how well it works - combined it with a lot of other things and it probably is a placebo effect, but then the medics are quite fond of the placebo effect these days?
Hi Gambit, thanks for the reply...i know the cure is to change the sub-conscious mind, it's just easier said than done but if the small things help ease the anxiety then it gives more strength to tackle the mind....well, i think so! lol
Sorry you are having such a tough time at the moment. Hope it all eases soon.
Hope you have got someone who can give you a big hug and an oxytocin fix. Definitely find hugs calming.
Remember a few years ago watching a programme on aspergers and one of the people they interviewed is/was amongst the worlds top experts on cattle management. She said she used tight hugs to calm her down after seeing the effect it had on cattle when she was helping an uncle out on his ranch when she was on a school holiday.
Things that really really help me when anxiety kicks in are
a) exercise - going for a run mainly as that also helps me with migraines
b) closing my eyes and listening to what is going on around me in the sense of hearing the sounds rather than the noises
c) doing a word or logic puzzle
d) noticing something around me that makes me feel a bit calmer and focusing my attention on that (eg colour green)
e) making a pot of tea (act of making it is the important one and I don't always drink the tea ... sort of an English version of the Japanese tea ceremony but without the hours of preparation :))
f) focusing on the sensations in my body that are being caused by the anxiety - usually tightness in the chest which makes me feel like not breathing ... but for some reason if I focus on the sensations it seems to stop the train of thought - a very recent discovery.
g) watching a comedy DVD - think my favourite is probably the Christmas Party episode of Drop the Dead Donkey
There have to be others but those are the ones that come to mind at the moment.
All good Thankyou but I skip the tea cheers
That's fine. I often skip drinking the tea as well. You could do it with coffee but you'd need to be making proper coffee rather than instant.
It's a strategy I've been using for about 30 years - usually in the middle of the night when I can't sleep so the drinking of tea is not something I really want to do at the time.
Hi London man I do lots of relaxation I use apps of the net there cheap and they work if your a little worried about taking rescue remedy then don't do some relaxation this
Does work I have also taken caffeine out of my diet and I did this over a coupe of weeks this helps a lot coffee is not good at all it's on every anxiety website I've been on I've also stop drinking as alcohol turns into a stimulant when it's proceed by your body although it can make you feel ok there's pay back latter Exercise held loads I hope this helps
