Can't sleep again

Hi Everyone πŸ‘‹! Another night of not being able to sleep. I start getting way too anxious if I just lie in bed trying to fall asleep so I usually get up between 3-4. I'm alone in my apt all day (although I have my 2 amazing cats which make everything better) but still the day & night are SO LONG. My sleep meds aren't working anymore. So I usually just get up and clean. I've tried those sleeping apps but they just make me more anxious. OK, trying something different and reaching out. My therapist told me nothing changes if I don't make changes and recommended a support group. So I'm trying...Hope you all are sleeping well. Thanks for reading!

Hi, Sorry to hear that sleep 😴 eludes you.

A lot has been written about insomnia and mental health problems.

"Sleep hygeine" is the term to describe preparing for bed to sleep. See if you can find something in the literature literature that can work for you.

As a last resort, ask your doctor for a different treatment approach. Try a different medicine πŸ’Š from a different group eg some end in "ine", others in "pam" etc.

My doctor is a believer in 90 minutes of restorative sleep cycles:

1. getting the best quality sleep before midnight

2. getting as many completed 90 minute sleep cycles in as you can before waking up

For example going to bed

at 9pm means 4 x 90 minutes before 3am early morning wakening.

Going to bed at 10pm is only 3 full cycles and one broken cycle. You really only have 3 periods of restorative sleep and wake up when your metabolism is at its lowest.

Doing this too many times leaves you with a sleep deficit πŸ˜”

I combine Mirtazapine which works well for 6 hours minimum with the 4 cycles theory to achieve a good personal outcome.

You don't have anything to lose, only a lot to gain by trying this method

Hi Blackcat (love the name)! Thank you for the great advice. I will definitely look up the medication and ask my doctor about it!

I know how hard lack of sleep can be and how anxiety inducing. Best of luck to you as you navigate this.
