What to do about strangers?

I'm afraid that strangers will be able to catch me paying attention to them when I go out in public...how irrational is that fear? If I show signs that my body language is moving a the same pace as theirs, will they figure it out that I'm focused on them or just continue to be ignoring me or in their own zone?
