Smoking and vapes ......and alcohol.

I gave up smoking 8 years ago and it wasn't to difficult because i then swapped it for vapes, the vapes i use look like a normal cigarette and i swear i never coughed at all with them, but with real cigarettes i coughed for England.

And now the problem i have is to give up the vapes and it's proving more difficult than i had envisaged, I am now on day 4 and the downside is i am eating Victoria Sponge laden with fresh cream like it's going out of fashion, plus chocolate bars and anything sweet and the thought of weight gain is depressing in the extreme.

It never bothers me if people smoke, in fact a colleague of mine spends £300 each week on cigarettes (unbelievable) but he can afford it and its none of my business.

I feel the same about alcohol, its entirely up to people what they do.

Some years ago, i was a heavy drinker but now it doesn't like me at all, very occasionally I will pour a drink, take a sip and then throw it away.

Most people have their demons and i can never criticize what rocks their boat, live and let live, what's right for one is not suitable for everyone, one hat doesn't fit all.

"And now the problem i have is to give up the vapes and it's proving more difficult than i had envisaged,"

I never got into vaping.

IDK about the UK, but here in the Midwest (US) it was pretty big around 2010-ish.

There was a time where you couldn't go anywhere without seeing somebody vape before going inside a store. It was everywhere.

.

"i can never criticize"

I know where you are going with that.

I try to be careful with giving advice, because I am far from perfect.

And i'm certainly not perfect either and neither do i give advice, the trouble is i find a lot of people try to tell me what to do and i just ignore it . ( in between it makes me very annoyed )

"the trouble is i find a lot of people try to tell me what to do and i just ignore it . ( in between it makes me very annoyed )"

I get it.

I usually try to consider the source of who is giving me the information, and go from there.

Thing is who exactly is so perfect that they have the right to criticise others?

Oh oh oh! I know this answer! My husband. 😁

I'm just the opposite; I always hope I'll get advice here. I can ignore it if I choose, but figuring things out on my own isn't my specialty anymore.

At a previous job I got criticised for going downstairs to the canteen to eat as according to those who criticised the food there supposedly was unhealthy and fattening!

OK maybe I could have benefitted from losing weight but that was entirely my own free choice if I did or didn't!

Absolutely the choice is ours.

hey my friend, i hear you, and i will not be told what to eat or whats bad for me, and often i could pick them up on some of their unhealthy habits, but i just stay quiet.😱

I know what you're saying s22, I don't want to get on their level and go tit for tat giving others unsolicated advice, to me that's immature. However, unwanted advice is so annoying 🤨 I feel like I'm being parented.

Turnipgirl profile image
Turnipgirl in reply to TangledUpIn

Yes I find unwanted advice infuriating as well and if I want advice I will ask myself!

I don't give advice unless I'm asked then I can't get myself into trouble for interfering!

Absolutely, it makes me feel as if i know nothing.

Okay, time for me to try to learn. Just because I'm desperate for advice when I reach out on our forum -- my mind's not so hot anymore -- it doesn't mean anyone else wants my advice. Treating others the way you want to be treated has its pitfalls.

Practice: "So do you want just support, or should I open my big mouth?" 😆🤫

When I worked at the pharmacy I had brought a bag full of nice healthy fruit and veg to have at lunchtime and things that I had made at home to put in the microwave there to heat up and I was walking down the corridor and someone shouted up the corridor that I had enough food in the bag to feed an army and I turned round and asked them whys that any of your business and they backed off then!

secrets22 profile image
secrets22 in reply to Turnipgirl

Its absolutely non of their business.

Turnipgirl profile image
Turnipgirl in reply to secrets22

Another colleague said shouting up corridors is what kids do who don't know any better and in grown adults it's stupid and childish and had told me that she thought that I eat exceptionally well!

Good luck, my friend. Be a warrior. The craving will soon dissipate, and your appetite for sweets will diminish, too. 🍀

I find when I don't have sweet stuff around in the flat I don't want it!

Isinatra profile image
Isinatra in reply to Turnipgirl

Good deal! I don’t buy sweets to keep handy and when I want something, I have to go to some trouble to go get it. Sometimes I just don’t go. But Secrets is talking about a different situation. He has to have something to satisfy an almost overwhelming desire for sweets. It’s withdrawals from nicotine/vaping he’s fighting. Not a run of the mill “ I think I want a candy bar”.

Turnipgirl profile image
Turnipgirl in reply to Isinatra

It's not easy is it nicotine withdrawal?

When I worked at prescription pricing I noticed that they can prescribe nicotine replacement therapy for those who are struggling so perhaps Secrets could ask about those?

Isinatra profile image
Isinatra in reply to Turnipgirl

Yes, there are several products to help with nicotine withdrawal. But since it’s vaping, the best way to get advice for the proper dosage and product, asking a pharmacist would be a big help.

Nicotine withdrawal can be difficult, you bet.

Oh my dear Roddy I understand as you know I'm a flip flipper myself I smoked when young on off as effected my chest only very light ones sill cut, mainly when out drinking or stressed then I binge drank when stressed stopped then but sweet stuff gave then up then it was cheese🙄 I went through a tea and biscuits phase too, savoury or sweet, now it's a bit of everything I have no choice moderation only or I'll get my ulcerative colitis again I'm on special diet, oh I went through a chamomile tea phase too, now I'm indulging in house DIY and garden work and too tired on night go go to tve kitchen I have to play stair ball with pixie too lol, when David was alive was you the same or just less, we all find ways to comfort ourself when we were babies we'd get a dummy put in our mouth after the breast feeding milk finished sweet milk, then mum gave us sweets, it's jnbuild ln us 😁🍰where's your cake photo you eat too quick no time to take the pic lol 💛✨🌻xxx

hey Mandy, when David was alive i was more focused and not so much shily shalying about, now undecided on most everything , do i want to move house, some days yes and some days no, because i guess i am used to very spacious rooms, and hav'nt seen anything that matches. I know i would have to get rid of a lot of things, and thats no hardship, but of course some things i do want to keep. Its all a mucking fuddle. xxx

Your living with grief and it's no wonder your head's all over, my mam described grief as bloo--y hard work, mam's nebour liked her big house but moved next to her sister she said she likes her cosy little house now, infact she lives in one room her kitchen extension overlooking the garden in summer she has a recliner chair reads and watches TV in there, I been struggling with the stairs getting down my bad knees playing up I'll walk less, I dread old age but I'm 6o a OAP soon 🤯xxx

Hey secrets,

Sponge cake covered with fresh cream! Oh my I'm lucky there's none here.

For me, chocolate, as long as it's very dark, is so addictive. Back when I was a wee thing, Grandma always had a huge bar in the fridge, and would break off a chunk for me when I visited. I won't tell you how many decades I've equated chocolate and love, but it's a few.

Nasty trade-off, piling on the calories to stop vaping. I wish I had a suggestion. I haven't read what everyone else says yet. I hope you get some useful advice.

Actually I've been puffing away on old vape cigarettes today hoping there might be a bit of nicotine left.......... hahaha.

Aww... You'll get there. Try to be patient with yourself.

See what I mean about the advice! I can't stop myself. Perfectly okay to ignore the above.
