I had no weight gain while on seteraline, on it for 10 years until I built up a tolerance. Talk to your Dr. check over your diet, is there something that needs to be changed. Are you in the peri-menopause or menopause, we usually gain weight then and after is is so hard to loose. Do not waste time worrying, find out if there is something that will help you. I was put on Mirtazapine last year and gained over 20 lbs, and it is hard to get off, it is the drug, it is known to cause hunger and weight gain, I am now in the process of weaning off of it!!! Hope I loose some of the weight.

I need to get back to walking, that helps me loose weight, swimming is good too if you have a pool accessible. Do a little weight lifting 3/4 days a week, that will help build muscle, which burn fat, alternate days of weights. All I can think of for now, write to us, we will try to help and support you. Sending love & hugs...Sprinkle 1...

So glad if I could be of help, depression is not an easy disease to deal with, and finding med's that work for us can be a trial. Be kind to yourself, talk to your pharmacist they are so knowledgeable when it comes to drugs and their side affects, I have a wonderful man and he is loving and kind. I have given up for the most part on loosing weight, I bought long and wide tops to cover my excess fat!!!

I won't give up on trying to loose weight but it is not number 1 on my list of "to do's"......Sending love strength,, belief in self and big hug.....Sprinkle 1....

It's different for everyone. I have not experienced weight gain on sertraline but you have and that doesn't mean I am right and you are wrong or vice versa just that the meds affect everyone differently. If this is getting you down ( which it would me) maybe it's an idea to discuss alternatives with your prescriber though I have to admit Sertaline is one of the best AD's out there so maybe it is a question if it is working to balance the pro's and the con's ? Gemmalouise x

PS Mirtazapine on the other hand didn't suit me at all and I did put on weight with that also so its a question of trial and error. Some people do really well on mirtazapine and don't put on weight or if they do it is offset by the improvement in their mood and this applies to all of the common AD's. There are about 20 different ones at least and so it is just a question of finding one which works for you. Can be a long arduous process but it is worth it in the long run.

It's different for everyone but a good rule of thumbis if you are using up more calories than you consume you WILL lose weight
