For me, St Patrick's Day has always been about celebrating my roots

Sweet Potato, White Potato, turnip, Parsnip, Rootabaga, Onion, and carrot are not pictured, and they are not happy with me.

But on a more serious note. Holidays have always been difficult for me. When I was younger as a child, and then as a father. The stress of being in a room with lots of people talking at the same time would send me into sensory overload. And now as I am older, The Opposite, my family have all gone their separate ways, the kids are adults now and hours away with their things to do. Too many empty chairs.

I miss my son but he in Care Home and doing amazingly well. I dare not disturb or interfere but I do visit every Sunday Time is so short. He is 22 yrs old autistic nonverbal (can’t speak)

Finally here, New England boiled dinner day 💚, well the one week a year that Corned Beef around here is $1.50 lb. not $6.00 per lb.

St. Patrick's day was a big deal. I would make dinner and had a house full. Then my children started doing dinner. Less people but still surrounded by laughter and love. This year it's just my husband and I. One of my children is out of town. The other is working. But that's ok. I will celebrate my Irish heritage and call my children. Empty chairs can be hard. But I make the best of things. It's all we can do. Happy St. Patrick's day.
