Got a dog for a companion

In August I got an eight week old puppy. Little did I know that I forgot how puppyhood sucks. I'm in puppy classes, try to wear her out during the day and now looking for day care. I just wanted a companion. My last dog was just so fun and she made me laugh. Right now I hate this dog who wants to run the house, growls at me and has actually bit me. I sure hope after the puppyhood is over she'll calm down and I'll be glad I got her but right now it's taken my stress level (which is over the top) and topped that. Any suggestions?

Hi! I totally understand where you are coming from, my family decided to get another dog two years ago and it was hard at first. The idea always seems great, but the work to get to where you want to be takes times. Continue to go to training with your new puppy, train with treats and positive reinforcement. Maybe look at online videos for some tips you can do with your new dog as well. If you get your puppy socialized with other dogs, like going to a dog park once it is old enough that may be good as well.

All puppies are going to act like little kids loaded up on sugar, for months and 8 weeks old is pretty young to even have a puppy away from it's mother and litter mates so it's probably going to act out even more. Depending on the breed, some pups are going to require more exercise and stimulation than others breeds and it's likely that it will take a year or two before your pup starts to mellow out some. If you think you really can't deal with the reality of having the puppy you might return it to the breeder and go adopt an older dog at your local shelter. Do it before you get too attached to the pup and do what's best for it.

A puppy is like an infant human. It needs time and patience, along with training. I also only adopt older rescues.
