Hi Agora! Thanks for the welcome. I’m glad to be a part of this group. I have to see a new psychiatrist because my former one doesn’t take my new insurance. I did not have a good connection with the first one I tried. It was emotional going through my whole 49 year history. It just sucked. Now I have to do it again. Looking forward to making connections. 😀

Hi Suzy76, I certainly understand how going through your emotional history can be wearing but it is important you find that right connection with someone who can help you. It took me awhile as well. It's such a personal thing that even a recommendation by someone else may not be the right fit for you. Good Luck in finding the right psychiatrist.

Meantime, you have your virtual family here 24/7 ready to support you while waiting.

Sleep is the first thing to go for me when my depression gets bad and I loathe sleeping pills so I'll only take them if I'm desperate. I'm not worried about it yet. Did you figure out what you're going to do today?

Do you usually get much sleep?

I'm doing some exercise first but after that I don't know what I'll do.

Usually I sleep 6-7 hours. That's probably the one area I could focus on that would help all my other problems but if I stress out about it too much then I'll lose the ability entirely. And I tend to stress. You should go to the zoo and take a picture of the funniest looking animal, or try painting a picture, it's very relaxing. Or work on your plan for world domination, whatever sounds the most fun.

7 hours is good, it's probably about enough sleep per night.

World domination lol that's a thought ill have to look into that, because you thought of it I'll let you rule a bit of it..

The zoo is miles away, I might do some art,I will see.

You have plans for when you waken?

That is my issue with sleep, especially on the nights before work. I'll wake up around 3:00 stressing about work and then I get stressed that I might not get back to sleep and if course then I can't because I'm stressing about that...

It's the worst! The thing that helps me the most is to actually get up and do something else for half an hour then I can usually go back to sleep. It has to be relaxing of course. You should hide your clock/phone from yourself so you can't look at it and start doing the annoying sleep math ritual.

I stopped looking at the clock because of the reason you mentioned. If I get up I make sure to look away from the clock. Sleep math ritual - an apt term. 😊

I had a doctor who told her that he gets stressed from his work and he would do the exercise bike for an hour and then go back to sleep. I don't think I could go back to sleep after that. I have tried sleeping on the couch when I get up in the middle of the night just to see if that makes a difference but it doesn't.

The one thing that worked at first was CBD but after the first two times it didn't make a difference.

I have been wondering about CBD and if it would help me. I think I'm mostly worried that it'll interact with something I'm taking and even though it's natural I already feel like I'm taking too many meds and supplements.

Really lazy yoga is about the extent of what I can do if I ever want to go back to sleep. Have you tried melatonin? It works pretty good for my mom. Didn't work for me but that was about 10 years ago that I tried it.

I have tried Melatonin and it will work the first time and then nothing after that. Same with Valerian Root, Hemp Seed Oil, Neuro Sleep, magnesium spray and CBD.

My doctor gave me Trazadone and. Klonopin. I still wake up in the middle of the night. Ambien, Lunesta and Seroquel were too heavy for me. As you can see, I have tried many things. I had two sleep studies but they just prescribed Ambien.

I'm in Missouri. I went to the Southwest when I was a kid for family vacation. It was so beautiful. I would love to do the Route 66 trip and hopefully will do that soon...
