Sertraline side effects

Hi, I’ve suffered from anxiety for many year and for about a month now its got so much worse so the doctor has started me on sertraline 50gm, I wasn’t too keen to go on it after reading the side effects but I couldn’t go on how I was, so on day 5 and boy the side effects are horrendous, I feel so much worse than before, can’t sleep, restlessness, headaches, anxiety 100 times worse, I’m going crazy, can’t go on like this. Anybody else like this ??

Hi,I take sertraline as well 100mg. Seems like when I first started it was 25 mg and then after a week if it is well tolerated, I moved up to 50 mg. Perhaps maybe take half of the 50 mg and see how you do with that for a week.

Give the meds time to work 6-8 weeks at most. I had bad side effects on it too but they subsided

You should talk to your doctor about the side effects you are experiencing. Unfortunately it normally takes time for your body to get used to the meds & the benefits take time- usually 4-6 weeks. On the plus side the side effects usually ease up. If they are really bothering you definitely talk to your doctor... maybe they can have you start in a lower dosage & adjust as needed. My doctor has done that with me (not the same med as you, with prozac)... so give them a call.

Hi I started on 25mg then 50 then 100mg like you i had daily headaches, anxiety restlessness and couldn't sleep made my insomnia so much worse spoke to my gp who disbelieve the sertraline was making insomnia worse saying side effects make you sleepy after 3 months headaches and insomnia got the better of me he tried to up them to 150mg but I said I wanted to try different meds hes now switched to imipramine which I'll start , doesn't seem to be many people on these which makes me wonder why those ones as pharmacy didn't even stock them if they dont help with insomnia I don't know what I'll do sirtraline was great at helping with panic and ocd but not so great with depression but saying that I only gave them 3 months, hope your side effects ease off soon

Hi, spoke to my gp today, and she wants me to carry on with them for 7 days, if no better she will change my medication, but I’m so panicky at the moment, worrying about everything, so she has prescribed me diazepam, if and when I need it. To calm me down.

Be patient with your meds. I started at 50mgs and now take 75mgs with great tolerance. If your symptoms don't improve, contact your PCP for new meds.

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum.

I've been on setraline for many years and the past couple of years I was on a low maintenance dose of 50mg until November when I became ill.

Due to being ill I became depressed and suffered with anxiety and my doctor increased my dosage to 150mg. Since the increase I too have been the same as you, not sleeping, restless and starting to gain weight 😔.

I am waiting to speak with my doctor to discuss my current issues. I really sympathise with how your feeling.

Have you spoken with your doctor about your issues?, if so, how did you get on?

Hi, I spoke to my gp Monday and she wants me to carry on and she’s ringing me next Monday to see how the side effects are, but I’m feeling the sideEffects have eased a bit, I’m on day 12 on them, don’t really want to change tablets and go though it all again, still not took the diazepam as I’m to scared of the side effects, blurred vision etc etc.

I've been on my increased dose of 150mg 3 week now and still having sleepless nights 😩.

I"ve has diazapam in the past and they are amazing.
