i think it relates to philosophy...

the name, lucian, in latin means light !

my interpretation:

lucian (the light), is very poetically avoiding the dark (sleep) with the kind help of the cicada, but once submerged in the dark, unable to escape (awake); and pleads for light (lucian) to lead the way out!
