Losing It

Hi. I’m spiraling down into loneliness and depression. I don’t know what to do. It doesn’t seem like any medications work for me. I was diagnosed as BiPolar since 19 years old and Have tried so many medications. Now at 52 Nothing is working. I’m losing hope. Should I just give up?

Please do not lose Hope and Faith. It is said people can feel their greatest sense of frustration when things start to improve for them. You have acknowledged to us where you are at & reached out for help. That took a measure of coping skills, perhaps a measure of improvement for you, that has brought with it a accompanying sense of frustration(?).

What came to my mind a week ago was a saying my mother use to say many a time - “If you watch you pennies your dollars will take care of themselves” (I’m in the states). It made me think that if I took baby steps in implementing lifestyle changes I need to make, my health would likewise follow.

Have you had or have access to pharmacogenomic testing? This testing involves a simple cheek swab (some companies use a blood sample). This test may give you insight into why some medications may work faster or slower, or produce more or fewer side effects.

In the states one has to check if their insurance policy covers it or not. Even if it doesn’t it is not cost prohibitive for everyone, at least in the states.

As you have already learned through trial & error which medications do not work for you pharmacogenomics may not be of any help to you at this point. My best advice is take things one baby step at a time & your goal of improved health should follow those baby steps.

Hopefully you can think of a few small steps to take even if it is as simple as a short daily walk. Please take care, we care.

Never give up, Hopeand Faith100. While it's undeniably a rough and tough time for many people out there, the world would be a much smaller and sadder place without you in it. I know you feel like you are dying, shrinking away to nothing, but we all love and support you here, no matter what. If you need someone to talk to you about any of your feelings, no matter how dark, we are here. Please don't give up. There is light ahead.

I know how you feel. I haven't found any medications that work for me either (except Xanax) But don't give up. Something might be just around the corner.
