TCM can definitely be an excellent alternative or complementary therapy for treating anxiety and depression. So can other traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurveda or Traditional Western Herbalism. Finding a certified TCM practitioner in your area is the best way to go. If you live in an area where there are many, you can perhaps request a little phone call to ask questions and see if they’re the right fit for you. Here is a directory of registered herbalists (some of whom practice TCM) in the US that you might want to use to search for someone in your area. americanherbalistsguild.com...

Best of luck to you!

There are herbs that can bring relief but none that bring cure.

Lemon Balm, also known as Verbana, is supposed to be a natural tranqilliser but although it grows in my garden I have never tried it.

Rawalrufa is a root vegetable that grows in India: for hundreds of years it has been grated and made into a porridge which is highly effective in combating anxiety. Mahatma Ghandi always started the day with a bowl of Rawalrufa porridge hence his peaceful demeanour. Roche used the rawalrufa root to synthesise as librium, valium or diazepam. Very effective at switching off anxiety but also not a cure.

Herbalism and other alternative medicines may bring relief but they do not bring recovery. This latter is only won through understanding, reassurance and a method that will break the vicious circle of fear causing an over-sensitized nervous system which causes symptoms which cause further fear which causes further sensitisation of the nervous system.

No herb or medication will do that: only by changing our approach to dealing with anxiety and our perception of our symptoms do we regain our quiet mind.
