Another trip to Er...extremely dizzy, off balance, legs going tingly and numb, heart racing..feeling my pulse all over body..ekg fine, chest X-ray fine, blood work fine, cat scan fine but yet I’m still feeling all of this..They say anxiety/stress is the cause and I’m scared to death to take meds for it?
Can anyone relate?: Another trip to Er... - Anxiety and Depre...
Can anyone relate?
I was really against meds at first but gave it a try when I saw that it worked for someone in an in-person support group. I'm glad I gave it a shot, because it changed my life at the time. I weaned off of it after a couple years when my therapy ended.
Hi Dedelana, all these symptoms are due to a rush of adrenaline that then builds
once you react to it with fear. The tingling and off balanced feeling comes from
the breathing being off. Either in hyperventilating, shallow breathing or actually
holding your breath. There comes a time that medication can stop these symptoms.
I'm surprised that the ER doctors didn't give you something to calm your fears and
stop your symptoms. That alone would let you know that this isn't caused by a
physical issue but rather an emotional one. xx
They have tried to give me meds but I’m scared to death to take them
I understand Dedelana that the fear of medication can stop us from getting
the help we need at times. However, since the body responds to what our
mind is telling it, by working on our anxious thoughts we can have some control
without meds. Although I do recommend if the doctors think you need that
extra help at this time, it can benefit you by providing an aid to quick relief while
you practice your calming techniques.
I was just like you and everyone else at one time, afraid to take medications prescribed
until one day I noticed my pantry shelf looking like a pharmacy. I would fill the prescriptions and then not take them. I'd go back to the doctor with my hand out to
help me. After a while, I realized that I was my own worst enemy. I either had to bend
to my fears and trust in my doctor or live with the constant anxiety. It doesn't have to
be a forever thing, just enough to calm your over sensitized nervous system for a while.
The choice is in your hands Dedelana. xx
