Away for a few days with my husband. Not too far from home just far enough to leave our routines at home and spend time together. Have to do it every so often. It's the only time we have each other's full attention. Hope all of you are doing well today.

Hi M
Yes I am doing fine, I am back home in East Anglia cooking for tonight's meal but also for a meal with a friend when I go and stay the night with her on Monday.
We are going to do a guided wildlife tour that starts fairly early in the morning in her area.
A nature reserve called Minsmere. We hope to see lots of different birds including one called the bittern which is a bit like heron and makes a loud booming noise where it hides in the reed beds. Not much point in it hiding really lol.
Where have you gone for your break, is it country or city. I love both wildlife and architecture, as well as eating out etc so it would be fun to hear about your trip.

We are in a city area about an hour and a half south of where we live. We stay at a lovely hotel out of the ways a bit but very close to the main roads. The hotel has a nice indoor pool and hot tub. Also a good restaurant. In the warmer months you can sit outside by the fire pit. There's a casino close by. My husband enjoys playing blackjack I prefer penny slot machines. There's also a lot of places to shop. Many of the chain stores are the same ones we have at home but are larger with a bigger selection. We used to come down to the casino then back home the same day. But we started coming down and staying for a night or two. We really don't have to worry about travel since it's close to home and being here we don't have to deal with all the little distractions of home feeling like we should be doing something. My son and daughter check in on the dog and cat for us. I am very lucky. We live in upstate New York but more in the middle of the state quite close to the Pennsylvania border. With so much to do and see in New York and Pennsylvania it's quite easy to get away for a day trip or longer. My husband is very familiar with the area we are visiting. His grandparents came from here and he used to visit his great aunts quite often growing up. Once we brought our children down and took the coal mine tour. My son was fascinated by the tour and couldn't wait to get home and talked to his great grandfather who worked in the coal mines before he moved from the area. And of course great grandpa was thrilled to share his memories with my son and answer his questions. It was lovely seeing the two of them. A cherished memory for me. Enjoy your trip. It sounds wonderful. Sorry for rambling on.
Not at all, I am interested.
Enjoy your trip.

I won on the penny slot machine. Enough that my husband and I left the casino with more money than we came with. So excited. I never win big and spent some of it shopping for myself. A sweater, a handbag, a necklace and two pairs of earrings. Everything was on sale but they are all things I wouldn't normally buy. A bit too expensive. We are both relaxed, had fun at the casino, enjoyed going out to dinner and most importantly feeling like a couple. My husband and I are high school sweethearts. Started dating at 17, dated for 8 years while we both went to college, now married for 31 years. So nice to remember we are a couple.
Mrspjsmom, sounds like a great idea. Enjoy your time away. xx
