What if ECT doesn’t work

Hi, I’ve had two ECT treatments so far and am terrified that it won’t work. I don’t really feel better (not that I expected to, I guess, after 2 treatments) & have been crying this morning. My doc says if I don’t feel better after 3 or 4 unilateral treatments we’ll switch to bilateral, which may mean more memory loss but honestly I don’t care anymore. I just want to feel better, at least a little. I can’t go on this way.

It’s hard to be patient I know. It sounds like you have a good treatment team who will continue to get you feeling better. You seem to have such strength and resolve that I can’t imagine you not progressing. But until then, we will be patient and celebrate dearly when your relief comes. Love from colorado❤️

Aw, thanks from Ohio! I’m not naturally a patient person so it is hard to fathom that this will take weeks.

My friends sister must have had about 8 ECT treatments and she was suicidal when first started. She is now out of Hospital and really well. The Hospital think she has bi polar but ECT really did help so keep on with it.x
