As far as my colleagues know, I am a person with a chronic health problem with flare ups that are painful to manage and slow me down but aren't debilitating or dangerous.

Which is to say yes, our bodies don't work right and it causes us pain. Often these issues were exacerbated by "lifestyle" factors. Again, this is all run of the mill for chronic diseases.

As you say, it may be in our heads, but our heads are on our bodies.
