Exercise and Anxiety

Has anyone exercised as a way to release nervous energy and help with anxiety overall? If so, how long does it take to notice a reduction in anxiety symptoms and what kind of exercise and how often? Thanks

Exercise absolutely helps with anxiety. However it can take about a week to notice some changes in your anxiety levels. I have found when I first start adding exercise.. my heart rate increase and i sweat.. that makes me anxious.. so until my body/mind adjust to the increased exercise level I dont feel any relief. I would start off slow and try for 3-5 days a week with some sort of exercise.

Thanks I am thinking of starting to exercise but I’m a beginner. I think I’ll start with 3 days and try to jog/walk. I am trying to help myself without medication. So lifestyle changes like exercise and changing my diet and vitamins and supplements.

Thanks. I need this kind of encouragement. I am weak due to some orthopedic issues despite having had surgeries and physical therapy. Some of my mobility has been compromised. My core muscles are quite weak but walking makes a difference. I need encouragement to walk and to make it a routine. Support appreciated if you're so inclined. I need to have the physical strength and neuropsych strength to work part time. I desparately need the money.

Exercise does help. The more, the better.

I have found that just doing physical labor...yardwork or raking leaves...for several hours will also benefit you, and make your yard look better! It is important to get your heart rate up and keep it there.

Doing this has resulted in less anxiety, better appetite, and better sleep.

Thanks this is good to know. I am planning on going to the gym tonight. I also have poor appetite lately so hopefully this will help. My sleep is ok but could be better as I frequently awake throughout the night and have to get up early with the kids.
