Suggestions & books that helped

Please write names of books that you read that made a difference in your journey to wellness. I am desperate to gain control over my anxiety. I read "Rewire your Anxious Brain" by Pittman and Karle. It was great. Many helpful suggestions that changed my life.

I've read a bunch of Albert Ellis' books a few years ago and they helped at the time. I read stuff all the time only nowadays I stay away from "self-help" stuff. I'm more into novels, dramas, crime books. But for anxiety and depression books, I've read Ellis' books ie. 'How to Keep People from Pushing Your Buttons', with Arthur Lange. The Cognitive Behavioral Workbook for Depression with William J. Knaus. That said, there are sure to be countless others even better ones. I'll be looking into the one you';ve mentioned by Pittman and Karle when I'm done with my 'novel' phase and jump back into Self help stuff. I cycle every few months. I cannot do ALL self help all the time. It would drive me crazy. :) cheers

This one's about tying God into all of it but The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale is a lifechanger for me! Also any Chicken Soup for the Soul books because there's so many inspiring stories. I'm also reading Meditation by Ian Gawler and Paul Bedson because meditating has really helped me too and this book helps you get better at it while also explaining scientific/psychological findings behind it. Anything by Claire Weekes helps too I listened to her audiobook Pass through Panic but I know she has a few other things as well.

Well the first one I read was Open Heart Open mind by Clara Hughes she's a former Olympian that has struggled with mental health.

The second one I read was Furiously Happy by Blogger/Author Jenny Lawson.

I liked both books because they just made realize that I wasn't the only one struggling with mental illness.

I've also read How to stop worrying and start living by Dale Carnegie. I have social anxiety so as apart of CBT program I was in this winter I had to read Triumph over shyness by Murray Stein and John Walker.

At the start of 2017 I read You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life! That was a fun read.

I got these for a friend and she found them very helpful:

-"Calming Your Anxious Mind: How Mindfulness and Compassion Can Free You from Anxiety, Fear, and Panic"

By Jeffrey Brantley MD

-"The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook"

By Edmund J. Bourne

Also, depending on your location, you might consider seeing if there are any WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) workshops near you. The one I went to took place over 3 Saturdays and was free. It's a peer support thing, where the people facilitating the class also have mental illness. I found it immensely helpful for my own depression recovery. I traveled 2 hours each way to attend, it was that good!
