Has anyone tried electroconvulsive treatment.

Was curious to see if anyone has actually tried this and if it is effective.

My son has tried this. He is very depressed with major depression, OCD and GAD. Since no medicine touches his depression, he decided his hope rested with ECT. It was tough, but he did it. He had to do without his clonazepam for too many hours, and he did it when he had to but the ECT didn't help. Now his hope is only on new meds as they come out. His disappointment is huge. I see an improvement not with the ECT but in recent months. He doesn't think so.

I had this several years ago. It helped at the time, but I needed numerous sessions before any improvement. Now I have relapsed and hope I don't need any more. It's no stroll in the park.

My dad has had ECT. It made a big difference to him but he was severely depressed. It takes a while to work, but it’s a life saver for him as he didn’t make much improvement with the medication they were trying. It’s usually a last resort if nothing else works xxx
